Countryside FM Field Events

Countryside FM radio is a station that focuses on agriculture, rural business and environmental issues. The people living in rural areas who are mainly farmers are our greatest target. As a result, the station holds field days in the rural areas. The rural people are in dire need of information on farming that would enable them to improve yields hence food security and their living standards.

Objectives for the Field Events

The radio’s main objective for the field outreach events is:

  1. To improve the small scale sector in the country by empowering the farmer with knowledge on proper farming practices.
  2. To ensure that the farmers are equipped with information to ensure food sufficiency and to achieve the Vision 2030.
  3. To campaign on sustainable farming while maintaining a clean environment for the future generations
  4. To assure our listeners that farming can be a profitable business
Kirere, Kigumo Division Field Outreach Event, 29th April 2009

In April Countryside FM held a field Outreach event in Kirere, Kigumo Division of Murang’a District. The area is well endowed with productive lands. The area looked green with young plants that had been planted on the on -set of the long rains.

Over one thousand farmers attended the event. Our experienced team in Agriculture taught the audience about better farming methods while maintaining a sustainable environment. The farmers also went round to the stands to be taught by different company representatives

The theme was: Sustainable Farming as a Business

The theme highlighted on proper farming skills without compromising the quality of the environment.

Kiburine, Meru Field day, 20th May 2009
Promotion of Agribusiness through Enterprise Diversification and Value addition for Enhanced Food Security and Increased Incomes

The theme enhances farming as a business by being more diverse and adding value on commodities to ensure higher returns and food security.

Countryside FM was in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture Imenti North District in organizing for the Field day. It was held in Kiburine location in Miriga Mieru Constituency. It took place at Mzee Eusebio Mutunga’s fam.

The vast farm was a good example to the farmers of how farming can be properly done to increase returns. The farm was divided into patches with each holding a different crop. Organic farming was enhanced.

Over 2000 farmers from the region participated during the field day. High school students were also not left out. They were advantaged as they could practically see how various agronomical practices should be done. Demonstrations were set up at different locations in the farm.

The Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Kareke Mbiuki, was the Guest of Honor in this event. The area Member of Parliament was also present. He highlighted on the need to ensure food security in the area.

Wambugu Farm Field Day, 24th -25th July 2009

The Field days were held at Wambugu farm in Nyeri. It attracted over 8000 farmers and 52 stakeholders in the two days.

ASK Central Kenya Road show-28th August 2009

The road show covered Nyeri- Othaya- Gakindu-Mukurwe-ini-Karatina-Chaka and back to Nyeri. The main aim was to sensitize people on the upcoming Agricultural show and also to boost listenership in the targeted areas.

ASK Central Kenya, 16th -19th September 2009

The event was officially opened by His Excellency, the President on 17th September 2009. The show attracted over 100 stakeholders.
